The more publicly visible a person is, the more people tend to attack that person. Quadruply worse when that person makes a living by saying things, taking stances, having opinions. Just how it is… and always has been.

Victor Hugo once said:

“You have enemies? Why, it is the story of every man who has done a great deed or created a new idea. It is the cloud which thunders around everything that shines. Fame must have enemies, as light must have gnats. Do not bother yourself about it; disdain. Keep your mind serene as you keep your life clear.”

Or, to put it in the parlance of our times, “Don't feed the trolls.”

Not feeding the trolls is, of course, much easier said than done. When a person gets attacked, when false information gets spread, a natural tendency is to become defensive. Which, all too often, leads to yelling matches and “flame wars” and the like. In the age of Social Media this effect is not only sped up exponentially, but increased in intensity.

With that in mind, occasionally I post simple (often all-too-obvious) statements about myself to counteract… well… the trolls. What follows is a collection of such statements, presented in no particular order.

Now, when someone publishes or utters something incorrect about me, this page of statements can be provided as a simple response to correct the un-truth. As time goes on, and the trolls grow ever more creative in their trollinations, I may add to this page.

It's time for a round of “Lunduke says obvious things about himself because a few people like to make up things about him.”

Lunduke is not now, and has never been, a Nazi.

Lunduke is a proud Jewish man.

Lunduke believes in freedom. Free speech and Free Software are my jam.

Lunduke believes in and lives by the ideals of Bill & Ted: Be excellent to each other.

Lunduke has been fighting for basic civil rights for ALL (incl. same sex marriage) since he became a grown-up in the 90s.

Lunduke likes you for who you are. Even if you don't like Lunduke.

Lunduke knows, apparently, how to write in the third person.

Lunduke does not like masked, hooded mobs that beat people up.

Lunduke feels like this should not be a controversial opinion.

Older computers make Lunduke smile.

Lunduke likes smiling.

Lunduke thinks we should all feel comfortable speaking openly about who we are and what we believe – without fear of being attacked.

Lunduke doesn't care who you are…

where you're from…

what you did…

as long as you love Lunduke.

Lunduke believes that real men do their best to not swear around women or children.

Lunduke believes that real men do not hit women or children. Ever. Under any circumstances.

Lunduke recognizes that some will take issue with that stance — Lunduke thinks that is weird.

Lunduke will never, no matter how much he disagrees with you, call you a Russian agent.

… Except maybe as a joke. Lunduke might say that as a joke.

Lunduke does not care what your skin color is. Nor what your religion, or gender is.

Lunduke will not, under any circumstances, attack someone based on race or ethnicity. Ever. Period.

Lunduke thinks racism and sexism are gross and stupid.

If a person tags Lunduke, replies to Lunduke, or quote-retweets Lunduke… and includes naughty words, racism, sexism, bigotry, hatred, or anything else Lunduke dislikes?

Lunduke bans that person.

Because Lunduke can.
