Linux Fest Northwest (the kickin-est Linux festival around) is taking place April 24th & 25th up in Bellingham, WA.
Linux Fest NW is a small event (by comparison to the big conferences like OSCon, etc.) but that is part of its charm. It’s big enough to have plenty of interesting sessions going on, but not so big that you get lost in the crowd. Plus… attendance is completely free.
Jupiter Broadcasting will be there this year (as we have in the past) to talk with all the cool kids and get some video interviews.
Last year I presented a session entitled “Why Linux Sucks (And What We Can Do To Fix It)” at the Fest. And the response was… responsive.
So I figured, why not present again this year!
I’ve proposed two sessions for Linux Fest Northwest:
Why Desktop Linux (Still) Sucks. And What We Can Do To Fix It.
A follow-up to last-years “Why Desktop Linux Sucks” session, we’ll take a look at the progress Desktop Linux has made over the last year. Then we’ll look at where it is still broken and what needs to happen to fix it.
Options for Developing Desktop Linux Applications
We’ll take a look at the wide variety of tools, IDE’s, SDK’s and languages available for developing desktop Linux software. Including their strengths and weaknesses, with recommendations for both new and experienced developers, as well as developers coming from other platforms (Windows, Mac, etc.).
If you think you might be attending this years Linux Fest, I recommend that you go to their site and register (it’s free, of course). Then go to their Sessions page and pick the sessions you’d like to see. This is how the conference will be selecting the sessions this year and gives them an idea of the possible turn out.

Looks good, hope this one is not as controversial as the last one

Any chance you’ll record your session this year aswell?

I hope it is; last year’s presentation had heads ringing everywhere and since then, many things have been improved such as boot-up speeds, FLOSS video drivers, and memory management. Sound still sucks tho; this Pulse-Audio thing needs to be figured out or dropped. Its amazing to me that the PA developer seems to think every implementation of his software stack is wrong, and if someone could just do it right we’d all be happy… Flash sucks too, of course.

Yes, we will absolutely be recording this years session (assuming the LFNW organizers choose to put it on the schedule of course).
