Now that RadicalComic is out and resting comfortably on Linux desktops, I thought I’d take a minute to point people new to digital comics toward where they can find publishers and sites that support these formats.
Oni Press - Perhaps most well known as the publisher of Wasteland, they offer a number of free comics in .CBR format.
Modern Tales - Provides several free comics in .CBZ. Also related to Modern Tales is girlamatic.com, seralizer.net and graphicsmash.com. All of which offer free digital comics.
Misery Depot is a free myster/sci-fi comic.
Flashback Universe also provides a number of free comics in .RAR format. If you rename these files to be .CBR… then RadicalComic can open them just fine.
That should be enough to get you rolling. I’ll post more here as we move forward (and build a master list of places to legally acquire digital comics).
If you have a favorite publisher or website that provides digital comics (in any format) feel free to post that info in the comments here!

Not to advocate piracy or stealing, but the obvious is not being stated (for good reason). Comic are printed for a very short period of time and are hard to find after they are out of print. The copyright holders gain nothing from the private reselling of comics. So for people who own paper comics, and would prefer to read without damaging their collection, or people who can’t find out of print comics, Torrents may be your best option. Pirate Bay has an entire section dedicated to comics in the CBR format.
of course, that comes with a “Use at your own risk” disclaimer.
Hopefully the publishers of popular comics will wise up, and things will change for the best. In the way that napster made MP3 available, Itunes made it legit, and Amazon made it awesome.
