ateam2We’ve known for a while now that there is a new A-Team movie in the works.

And, admittedly, I’ve been skeptical.

You see, I’m a huge fan of the original series.

The cast was astounding: Mr T, Dwight Schultz (Who you will also remember as Reggie from Star Trek TNG), Dirk Benedict (Starbuck from the original Battlestar Gallactica) and, of course, the great George Peppard.

As a kid, these guys taught me a great deal about what it was to be a real man.  They were funny.  They were loyal.  They planned well and were cautious, but took risks to get things done.  And they always, always helped out the damsel in distress.

Today we got our first look at the cast of the new A-Team movie (which, admittedly, has a great set of actors in it).

And it looks wrong.

The new Face (Bradley Cooper) looks angry.  The attitude is all wrong!  Face is more easy-going, and the ladies love him for it.

The new B.A. (Quinton “Rampage” Jackson)… where is the bling?  B.A. wears a lot of gold chains, end of story.

ateam_rev_01_10-10-09Murdock (Sharlto Copley)… actually he looks about right.  I love Dwight Shultz’s Murdock… but I think this could work.

And , then there’s Hannibal (Liam Neeson).

He’s got the cigar.  He’s got the gloves.  Heck, he’s even got the hair.

But it just doesn’t feel right.

Then there’s the van.

I’m going to say this once: They got the van wrong, and the van is important.

(Though the van is obscured by a lot of smoke… maybe it’s awesome.  I dunno.  I’ll go out on a limb and just say “Van is causing me PAUSE”.)

For me, this is like if they re-made Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back with a whole new cast (let’s say, Hugh Laurie as Obi-Wan and Neil Patrick Harris as Luke Skywalker)… okay, that actually sounds pretty damned epic.

How about if they re-made The Empire Strikes Back with Bronson Pinchot and Mark Linn-Baker (Balki and Larry from Perfect Strangers)… wait.  Dude that would be awesome too.

Okay.  Maybe Empire Strikes Back is a bad example.  But here’s the point I’m trying to make (other than they obviously should re-make The Empire Strikes Back, apparently):

I’ll be there opening night for this movie.  But I’m pretty sure it’ll tork me off.

Oh no! I didn’t hear about this . . . I feel skeptical about most remakes and this is no different. I absolutely loved this show when I watched it on TV Land. I’ll probably check this movie out when I can out of curiosity, but I hope they don’t screw it up!

I’m excited about this. I know they’ll screw with the van and it will p!ss me off but if the story is right this could be a really good film. I think the cast look good. Face may look serious now but I am pretty hopeful that Bradley will play him right. My main concern is BA. Rampage is a cool guy but can he act?

How to say this… I love the A-Team, and while I’m not a fan of Hollywood remakes, I could see this being a idea for a update.

However, from the picture, all the characters except for Face look like modern versions of the original. You’re right with the Face looking angry. Why is he carrying guns?!? While he has had guns in the show, he was probably the least likely to use them.

And the van. The van is the icon. It is timeless. You can’t take the van. Not over B.A.s dead body. His ghost would comeback and kick Chuck Norris’s a** then kick your a**. You don’t touch the van.

    Anyway, that’s my 2 cents.

They should’ve cast these guys instead.

Stop this now before it’s too late. Doesn’t anyone have any original ideas any more?
