RadicalCodex 1.0 is Available!

February 17th, 2009

beta3shotfull1RadicalCodex, the eBook and Comic Book reader/organizer/exporter for Linux, has reached the 1.0 milestone!

A big thanks to everyone who tested RadicalCodex during the beta cycle!  Your feedback has been absolutely fantastic.

For those of you unfamilliar with RadicalCodex, here’s a quick list of some of the things this little beauty can do:

  • Let’s you read eBooks (.pdf or .txt) as well as Comic Books (.cbr or .cbz).
  • With automatic bookmarking… you’ll never lose our page again.
  • You can then view and search through your books with a nice, customizable cover view.
  • And then organize your books into definable categories.
  • If you have an Amazon Kindle or Sony PRS-505 eBook reader device, you can sync your books by a simple drag and drop.
  • Heck, you can even set a Comic Book page as your desktop background.

beta3orgshotfullGo ahead.  Give it a spin.  There are packages available for Ubuntu, Fedora and OpenSuse, with more (including repositories) on the way.

I dare say, RadicalCodex is the most powerful and customizable (don’t forget best looking!) eBook and Comic reader/orginzer available.  For any operating system.  And it is only available for Linux.

    Hello,

I tried RadicalCodex, he launch well, but it seem’s that it can’t « see » my sony prs-505.

My linux is an ubuntu intrepid 64 / awesome as my WM and a gnome-session running. I have all the recommended packages installed. I run radicalcodex from my console with a « ./radicalcodex » from the directory.

    Here is the output :
    `–> ./radicalcodex
    /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so: mauvaise classe ELF: ELFCLASS64
    Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgioremote-volume-monitor.so
    /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so: mauvaise classe ELF: ELFCLASS64
    Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgiogconf.so
    /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so: mauvaise classe ELF: ELFCLASS64
    Failed to load module: /usr/lib/gio/modules/libgvfsdbus.so

I tried it on my laptop with a 32 bits system and it can « see » my sony prs-505 but not the books inside, nither synchonising it.

    Regards,
    Olivier.

nemolivier: On 8.10 64bit did you install via the provided .deb package?

Are you unable to sync books/comics to the prs-505 at all? ie: what happens when you drag and drop a pdf/etc to the prs-505/eBook Device listed in the bottom left corner?

What -should- happen is that you see a brief (in most cases far less than a second even) dialog (unless you are syncing a .cbr or .cbz). Then, after you unmount your 505, you should have that book on your device.

My two primary test rigs here are a stock 8.10 64 bit and a stock 8.10 32bit.

    Gongrats on 1.0!

Changing the page with scroll wheel doesn’t work yet on my machine (tried this before with beta4). I used reimported thinkpython.pdf. I’m on Intrepid 32bit.

Tip: Grey out next page/previos page buttons when there is no next or previos page.
