The Linux Action Show! has its own wikipedia page.  (Though it could use a little love.)

This makes sense.  The Linux Action Show! rocks the house.

But there are many, many other wikipedia pages that do not exist.  The absence of these pages on our global, intertube-based hitchicker’s guide makes me cry a little each night.

Here is a quick list of just a few of those pages:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bryan_Lunduke

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beer_is_Tasty

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jupiter_Broadcasting

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Fisher(podcaster)

Here’s the thing.  I would feel weird writing any of these pages myself

However I have no problem at all putting out the call for you crazy kids to write these pages!  :)

Linux (Still) Sucks Video

April 26th, 2010

Linux Fest Northwest 2010 wrapped up less than 24 hours ago, and it was (as usual) a great show.  The full Jupiter Broadcasting crew was there and had an absolute blast.

On the first day of the show I gave an updated version of last year’s “Why Linux Sucks.  (And What We Can Do To Fix It)” session that I know many of you wanted to see (the room got pretty crowded, and I know many couldn’t make it inside).  So here it is, in all its glory…

Why Linux (Still) Sucks.  (And What We Can Do To Fix It).

And here are the slides from the presentation (in Open Office format, of course!).

For those interested, we also talked about Linux Fest NW in the latest episode of the Linux Action Show.

Ogg and h.264 versions of the video can be downloaded from the Jupiter Broadcasting page as well.

totemLinuxFest Northwest (the coolest Linux event of the spring) is less than two weeks away (April 24th and 25th) and, of course, the Linux Action Show will be there, in Bellingham, WA, to cover the general shenanigans.

The official presentation schedule has now been posted, so you can plan your nerdy weekend accordingly.

I’ll be speaking on both days, first on Saturday:

Why Desktop Linux (Still) Sucks. And What We Can Do To Fix It.

Saturday, 11:00 am in Haskell-219

This is a (highly) updated version of last years session (of an almost identical name).  We’ll be covering how far Desktop Linux has come over the last year and where it still needs to go.  The response to last years session was… kinda big.  So this is not to be missed.

And then on Sunday:

Options for Developing Desktop Linux Applications

Sunday, 11:00 am in Haskell-203

This session is for everyone.  Those new to Linux.  Those new to software development.  And even those who have been in Linux development for years.  We’ll be covering the wide variety of options for developing desktop applications for Linux, including their advantages and pitfalls.  And recommendations for various types of developers, skill levels and needs.

You’ll notice that, on both days, my sessions are right before lunch.

What does this mean?  Why, I’ll tell you exactly what it means.

It means we’ll be gathering all the “cool kids” together and hitting the town somewhere for food (and, most likely, beer)!

Plus, we’ll be video taping the whole deal.  So if you want to be on the next Jupiter Broadcasting video… this is the best way to do it!

LinuxFest Northwest really is a blast.  Plus… it’s free.  So just show up and get your geek on.

If you live in Washington State, or British Columbia… you’ve got no excuse.  Just gotta be there!

To wet your appetite, here’s a few of the sessions I’m going to try to make it to (that I’m not speaking at) that look just plain rad:

Home Media Streaming with Roku and Python

Saturday, 2:30pm in Haskell-219

This presentation will cover Home Media Server project which allows you to stream local media (mp4 video and mp3 audio) to the Roku (Netflix) Player attached to your TV. I will cover development of the server software using TornadoWeb and Python as well as of the Roku software using their BrightScript language for writing Roku Channel applications.

Then this one looks cool to get a demo of WebYAST…

Making Rails Interesting

Saturday, 1:30 pn in Haskell-104

Learn how to use Ruby scripting within Ruby on Rails to build web applications that can do more than read and write to databases.

Expect plenty of time for discussion, examples of Ruby scripts used for system administration, file and image manipulation, and remote network applications, and a practical demonstration of openSUSE’s WebYAST system administration tool.

Oh oh oh, this one just sounds awesome…

Digital Forensics and Linux

Sunday, 1:30 pm in Haskell-108

Ever watch one of those CSI style shows where some guy is rummaging through a suspect’s computer and pulling out Emails, Pictures, and Documents that all help close some case? Did you ever want to know more about how REAL digital forensics is done?

And there’s a ton more.  Should be a hell of a great weekend.

I’ll be twittering and facebooking live from the event just for good measure (because that’s what the cool kids do, right?).

New Jupiter Broadcasting Store

February 22nd, 2010

jblogoIt finally happened.  After several years… Jupiter Broadcasting finally has a store… store.JupiterBroadcasting.com.

We’re still fleshing it out and adding more goodies, more clothing and the like.  But it is live and fully functional right now.

jjcansuckitWe don’t handle any of the transactions ourselves.  All purchases end up going through Amazon, Printfection (for the clothing), etc..

Along with the store launching you can find the Jupiter Broadcasting clothing line-up.   Including Linux Action Show shirts and hoodies… as well as shirts that, ahem, make a statement.

We also have sections dedicated to Star Trek, Comics, Linux… and other geeky pursuits.

Every purchase made through the store goes towards off-setting the cost of producing the shows at Jupiter Broadcasting.  We don’t get much per sale, but every little bit helps!  (And, besides, it doesn’t cost you any extra to go through our store than through Amazon.com directly… so why not, right?)

The Linux Action Show Returns!

February 18th, 2010

las227I can contain myself no longer!  This secret is burning a hole in my… secret pocket!

The Linux Action Show, the alpha and omega of Linux podcasts, is back.

This Saturday (February 20th) at 5pm (Pacific Standard Time) we will be recording the first episode of Season 11 of the Linux Action Show and, of course, the whole thing will be streamed live (in full video glory) over at Jupiterbroadcasting.com/live.

And, starting with Season 11, the Linux Action Show is going to a weekly schedule.  That’s right.  A brand-spanking-new episode, packed with Linux-y goodness, each and every week!

Will we talk about Windows Phone Series 7 Phone Windows Series Windows Phone 7 Phone?  No.

Will we talk about Apple’s latest round of sticking an “i” in front of a word?  No.

Will we talk about Maemo/Moblin/MeeGo, open source NVidia drivers with 3D acceleration and the latest Linux Distro releases? Oh hells yes.

So, this Saturday, head over to JupiterBroadcasting.com/live and join in the live chat while we record the return of the best freaking show about Linux to ever grace this fine planet of ours.

UPDATE:

Thanks to everyone who tuned in to the live show!  And, for those who missed it, you can watch it here or over at JupiterBroadcasting.com (where you can also snag an audio only version for those who like to listen in the car).
