It finally happened. After several years… Jupiter Broadcasting finally has a store… store.JupiterBroadcasting.com.
We’re still fleshing it out and adding more goodies, more clothing and the like. But it is live and fully functional right now.
We don’t handle any of the transactions ourselves. All purchases end up going through Amazon, Printfection (for the clothing), etc..
Along with the store launching you can find the Jupiter Broadcasting clothing line-up. Including Linux Action Show shirts and hoodies… as well as shirts that, ahem, make a statement.
We also have sections dedicated to Star Trek, Comics, Linux… and other geeky pursuits.
Every purchase made through the store goes towards off-setting the cost of producing the shows at Jupiter Broadcasting. We don’t get much per sale, but every little bit helps! (And, besides, it doesn’t cost you any extra to go through our store than through Amazon.com directly… so why not, right?)

So… I’ve got a comic book I’m going to start self publishing via Amazon’s Create Space.
Create Space offers some great quality full-color prints. Which allows me to create a really nice looking comic that is print-on-demand.
So far, so good.
But I’m having a hard time figuring out pricing, and I’d love your guys’ input.
If I put out a 40-page, full-color comic… I can do so for $8.95 and make a (small) profit.
Or I can put out a 40-page black and white version for $5.95 and make a similar profit.
But, while being in black-and-white wouldn’t kill this comic… it’s not how I intended for it to be read.
Plus, $5.95 is still higher than your standard single-issue comic that you typically get from the news stands.
On the other hand, many indie publishers charge between 8 and 10 bucks per issue for 40-pagers…
So here’s what I’m leaning towards:
$8.95 for a full-color (inside and out) high-quality print.
$3.95 for a DRM-free digital copy (PDF and CBZ).
Thoughts?
(And, yes, I’ll post a sample soon so you can see what the comic is like for your selves.)

Reading a comic is great.
Making a comic? Even better.
I am pleased to announce the immediate availability of Radical Comic Designer 2.0 for Linux and Windows.
For the uninitiated: Just what is Radical Comic Designer?
Radical Comic Designer is a super easy to use application that lets you take any pictures you have laying around and, quickly, create your own Comic Strips or even full Comic Books.
Here’s a quick run-down on what’s new in 2.0:
- For the Windows version: Full Windows 7 support.
Refreshed look and feel (including a new application icon).
- Improved rendering of some of the objects (including cleaner Speech Bubble lines).
- Additional contextual (right click) menu’s to make working with your comics easier.
- A new Help system with a tutorial on how to get the most out of Radical Comic Designer.
- An updated toolbar.
- Bug fixes, bug fixes, bug fixes!
The mantra for this release was simple: “Make it look nicer and run better.” And I am pleased with the result.
And, of course, this is a free upgrade for all registered Radical Comic Designer users.
If you haven’t picked up a copy for yourself yet, you can do so over at the Radical Breeze Online Store for $10.
Only 10 bucks. Think about that. Even if you only make 5 little comic strips… the total cost per comic is already down to 2 dollars. This is what I call a good “Dollar to Comic ratio”.
And, for those who may not be aware, there is also Radical Comic Designer… for Windows Mobile. So you can get your Comic-designing done while you are out on the town.
Plus: If you buy a license for Radical Comic Designer… you can use it on any supported platform. Windows. Linux. Windows Mobile. One license covers them all.
